IBA Hamburg International Building Exhibition

On 25 June explained the IBA spokeswoman Anna Vietinghoff in a telephone conversation the structural situation and gave me an overview of the terrain with ongoing projects and the effects of IBA to the further urban development.

The 21 Century has long since moved into Hamburg and the means to shape future. This task arises with the International Building projects. It involves the development of a city that is almost two million inhabitants, and the metropolis of attraction for many people. With 60 planning, social and cultural projects and programs IBA Hamburg shows by November 2013, as city in the 21st Century can grow ecologically and socially.



The 35 square kilometer project area on the IBA Hamburg Elbe islands Wilhelmburg and Veddel and in Harburg port is to become a model for sustainable, future-oriented interior development. There, 55,000 people from over 100 nations. By refocusing the Hamburg city development reached the Hamburg Elbe islands in the focus of planning between the port city in the north and in the south Harburg. For this purpose, IBA Hamburg GmbH was founded as a subsidiary of Hamburg.

Over 100 IBA partners support the work of the Society. Almost 40 private investors could be obtained to invest over 700 million euros in the projects for the future of cities. Until 2013 more than 1.217 new dwellings have been completed or under construction. 516 apartments have been modernized. There are also more than 100,000 square feet of commercial space, eight educational institutions, two senior housing and care homes, three kindergartens, four sports facilities, a trade center, a center for artists and creative people, the extension of the Assmann channel and more than 70 hectares of greenery. By 2020, the project area more than 5,000 new flats will be built.
