In
Städel a fine Claude Lorrain exhibition has been opened.
Not in the new annex, which is officially only from 22
February will be accessible, but in the side wing of the main
building at the Holbeinstraße and only one floor above the ground
floor in a room with several rooms.
Many of the paintings can be seen, as well as drawings and etchings
by the artist that are on display.
In previous years, the painter was always reported as a model to the
refined art techniques, which could achieve this only by his
lifelong meticulousness.
For the current exhibition, this aspect was not dealt with
extensively.
Rather, the distinctive character of the lone artist was
highlighted, who lived his life alone and entertained no workshop,
because the project did too much effort.
Born in Lorraine, Claude Lorrain spent the early years in Italy and
then in Rome, where his painting came to an early success.
Later he took orders only from mostly wealthy clients.
From a certain time occurred copyists and forgers, so that the
artist felt compelled to create a catalog of his paintings, which
the authenticity of a work can be documented from his own hand.
This collection of drawings he worked so laboriously out that they
have become true works of art.

The classic ambience of the museum's conservation areas is
contributing its share to the appreciation of painting by Claude
Lorrain.
The
exhibition was previously on display at Oxford.
On this occasion, Jon Whiteley had traveled to attend the opening.
Whiteley has mentioned what a deep influence on the culture of
Claude Lorrain taken of the English landscape painting.
He was always of paramount importance, just think of the impact on
artists such as William Turner and other landscape painters.
What impressed the Britain have in this type of painting is the play
of light with delicate nuances of atmospheric composition in
harmonious balance.
The exhibition curator is Martin Sonnabend, who also spoke on the
life of painter Claude Lorrain.

works from all phases of the artist are offered.

National Gallery in London, the Petit Palais in Paris and the
Kupferstichkabinett at Berlin.

and original works of art created.
